Sharp, soft and some favourite pictures.
There are those who think photographs should be as sharp as possible – and in many forms of photography you can understand why.
But as I review my pictures this year I’m struck by the fact that some of the most powerful images are right on the limit of softness that’s acceptable, so here’s a selection of them.

I usually carry two cameras, one with flash and one without, and whilst the flash can give a sharper picture the image without flash in natural light can often be much more evocative.
I give my clients both so that they have the final choice, but it’s the natural light shot right on the limits that has the emotion and feeling of the day.
There’s one in this selection that may be too far for some, but for others it’ll be the best of the bunch – and the clients also had a nice clear version taken with flash!
