Jess and Oli’s Marquee Wedding in Funtington near Chichester
Would the rain hold off at the church, just long enough for the service – and for everyone to leave and get home for the reception?
I arrived in a torrential downpour at the church for my pre-wedding check – there were huge puddles in the road and a stream of water, together with someone from the church pushing the water away with an enormous broom. It didn’t look promising and wading to do the getting ready pictures was not appealing.
But a miracle did happen, the water did run away in time – with some serious help – and by the time Jess arrived there was barely a puddle left. You’ll see a shot of a guest with a box marked ‘white umbrellas’ and he’s smiling because they weren’t needed.
I still think that most of the most emotional shots are unposed and these certainly prove that
My particular favourite shots here are those of Jess into the sun – this contre-jour technique can give some beautiful colours and Jess looks totally fabulous in them. Other faves are the reportage pictures of Jess and Oli together – I still think that most of the most emotional shots are unposed and these certainly prove that.
Some people get very worried about light in marquees, but these shots show just how beautiful a candlelit marquee can be – the light on Jess on Oli is just gorgeous.
Thank you to Jess, Oli and their families for a great day – I photographed Oli’s sister Michaela’s wedding to Tom two years ago and it was wonderful to see everyone again.
